To publicise their new album ‘home’, Rudimental are giving away signed copies to people tagging #thisishome or @rudimentaluk to show what ‘home’ means to them on Vine, Instagram and Twitter.

Top notch!

It’s a promising start…

So far there are over 4,500 images tagged #thisishome on Instagram, although the majority aren’t directly linked to this campaign alone.

There are almost 300 tweets using the tag, reaching 500,000 people with an estimated 522,000 impressions.

There are only 11 videos tagged #thisishome since Rudimental kicked off their Vine submissions, but really exciting to see them using the channel in such a forward thinking way.

How could #thisishome be improved?

A hashtag that was slightly more exclusive may have been advisable, and somewhere to host all of the amazing content in one place could be a great way of creating legacy around the album launch.

Watch this space - really exciting to see a band so on board with social so early on.

My first day at sxsw has been a busy one. All in all I managed to take in information from six different sessions, eat lots of grilled cheese plus sampled a three chilli burger with various types of margaritas at the Iron Cactus for dinner.

The weather has been hot and humid, albeit a little drizzly. A high level of excitement is buzzing in the air - everyone is happy to be here!

Each day I’m going to aim to do a quick wrap up rblog piece on all the interesting panels I attended. Key takeaway: Social TV needs to not only use signposting to encourage live interactions and conversation, but be used to gage opinion before and after screenings too. This can provide valuable insight into viewer perception - great for branded content.

I’m not one for activity tweeting about TV shows - I’m more of a lurker. But it turns out 1/3 of all Twitter users do tweet about what they are seeing on screen.

TV shows use lots of different tricks to engage an audience. One favourable technique is tweeting in the style of a character and getting character to interact and engage with each other. This create longevity and means followers see extension of show beyond when it’s airing on TV.

Another way to extend interaction is to drum up interest to a show ahead of it airing. Ask viewers what they want to see and show them behind the scenes information.

Did you know? 50% of Super Bowl ads used a hashtag to encourage online converation. In m opinion the other 50% were missing a trick.

The next step for social TV is for brands to use content and tags more creative to up reconition and increase purchase power.

Despite Twitter being the main platform for gaging feedback about TV and engaging with your audience, there is cross platfrom chatter. This is harder to track on Facebook but is rapidly rising and is more trackable on Tumblr.
